When temperatures soar, our Cape Cod A/Cs work hard. Many use fans for cooling when their A/Cs aren't on but never think of using them when they are.
Supplementing your A/C with fans is a way to stay comfortable without lowering your thermostat. In fact, you may even be able to raise that temperature setting for greater savings without sacrificing comfort.
Here are two things you can do:
- Change the switch on you ceiling fans to have the blades turn in a clockwise direction. When you're in the room, set the fan to turn slowly. This will not blow air directly on you -- rather, it will pull colder air that otherwise would settle at floor level and circulate it throughout the room. This movement of air over your skin helps your body stay cool and dry. When a room is unoccupied, turn the fan off.
- Today's more efficient systems have variable speed blowers that gently circulate treated air throughout your home. And because they operate with low cost direct (DC) rather than alternating current (AC), we recommend that you leave them in the "ON" position throughout the cooling season. The added circulation not only keeps you cooler but has the added benefit of cleaner air as a result of increased circulation through your system's air filter.
Not sure what type of blower your A/C has? Give us a call, and we'll help you find out.
Consider replacing your inefficient clunker with an energy-efficient replacement or add AC and heating to select areas of your home with a ductless mini-split system. Schedule a no-pressure / no-obligation consultation with Lincoln.
